LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Voters bought the big lie
This election proves that Hitler was right. He said if you tell a big enough lie that people will buy it.
Unfortunately, our people buying the big lie has put the long-term health of our democracy and extinction of species at increased risk.
I personally cannot understand how a moral and ethical people could vote for a man who so clearly has promised to unleash retribution on those who have confronted his unethical, immoral and illegal behaviors.
Have we sold our souls for pieces of silver?
Using biblical criteria, he is clearly a false prophet.
In terms of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, he meets all the criteria of a brand of narcissism called histrionic personality disorder. A mental illness.
Those who know him well — family members, inner circle staffers, former cabinet members and generals who have written books about him — he is characterized as dangerous and unhinged.
From listening to his rambling at his rallies, you might note four things — repeated hate speech, threats of violence, illogical nonsense and many grandiose promises without details.
This loose cannon will have access to our nuclear codes.
He promises to undo our environmental progress, and may set us back to a point of no return.
Extinction from global warming will take longer, but a nuclear war will be quickening.
The far right wing of the Republican Party has made it clear they are out to establish one-party rule. Many of these radicals will be placed in key government positions, contaminating the integrity of our institutions.
His success in following Hitler’s playbook is terrifying.

The longer I contemplate this past election, the more I believe there must have been massive election fraud yet to be discovered.
The election results just seem so improbable, given that just over half the voting population thought a convicted felon, rapist, Putin puppet, serial liar and insurrectionist con man should be the president of the country expected to lead the free world.
A person who has publicly stated the free press is the enemy of the people.
A person who lied about having classified documents stashed openly at his Florida home with no means of protecting their contents from nefarious eyes. (I can’t help but wonder what dastardly advantage those documents provided our adversaries.)
A person who has denigrated veteran casualties over their grave during a campaign stop.
I can only imagine my father, a WWII/ Korean War Navy veteran, if still alive, would have tears of sadness in his eyes over the apparent direction this country is headed, who, with many others, fought for the freedoms we have enjoyed over the past decades, which now appear threatened by someone with such fascist tendencies.
This thought being even more discouraging by a spineless political party that continues to cover for his incoherent ramblings. It is truly mystifying.
For those who shamefully support such a person, apparently the truth and actual facts are meaningless, and unfortunately, a debate with a supporter is impossible if a common set of facts/truths cannot be agreed upon.
There is no such thing as “alternative facts.” What should be important is character and integrity, qualifications totally lacking in the current president-elect.
